Summertime Fun at Great Oak Manor

Great Oak Manor is gearing up for summer 2018 and we know it’s going to be the best summer yet!

Here are some of our favorite fun summertime activities for kids of all ages!

Go fishing. Fishing on the Eastern Shore is permitted from banks and certain public landings. There are also fishing charters that leave out of Rock Hall and Chestertown; or, for the more hands on fisherman, rowboats can be rented near Eastern Neck Wildlife Preserve.

Kick back in one of our kayaks! Feel the warm sun on shoulders and the water splash on your face as you explore the Chesapeake Bay.

Go sailing or power boating. The Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries provide ideal opportunities for sailing, power boating and other water activities. There are numerous charter services in Chestertown and Rock Hall.

Look for the birds. More than 300 bird species flock to Kent County including: Canada and Snow Geese, 24 species of ducks, Great Blue Herons, swallows, sparrows, blackbirds and eagles. We see eagles and blue herons on the beach regularly. What other birds have you found wandering the grounds?

Visit a festival or two. Kent County hosts numerous festivals throughout the year. Some of our favorites are Galena’s Dogwood Festival, the National Music Festival, and Pirates and Wenches.

Sip your way through the Chesapeake Wine Trail: We’re only a 30-minute drive away from a few of the wonderful wineries along this trail, so try out the vintages at Crow Vineyard and Winery.
