Kent County comes alive with music during the summer. We would like to take this month to highlight some of the exciting upcoming musical events in the area.
June and July find the Riverfront Concert Series coming to the shores of the Chester River. Held at the Custom House Lawn: 101 South Water Street, Chestertown, this series of performances features three loved bands from the mid-Atlantic area offering different styles and sound.
The series is sponsored by the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College. The organization’s goal is to find innovative ways to expose people to America: both in the now and in the past. This concert event offers an assortment of sounds and styles that celebrate the unique sounds of American music from different genres and locales.
The concert series kicks off on June 18, 2015 with The Bumper Jacksons coming to Chester River’s shore from Washington D.C. An eclectic mix of country, swing, jazz and blues styles, this group of six performers offers pedal and acoustic guitars, string bass, woodwind and brass sounds, and some of the most creative percussion work you’ll see in a long time. This surprising mix of sounds results in a tight, cohesive sound and a ton of fun!
July 2, 2015 finds The Back Porch Blues Band taking the stage. As their name implies, the Kansas-based group offers up some mean blues and a fantastic time for their listeners.
Get ready for Chestertown’s own The High and Wides on July 9, 2015! Their self-proclaimed genre of “post-boogie, hillbilly rock’n’roll” brings a trio of strings (guitar, bass and banjo) echoes with the sound of Appalacia.
Your mid-week getaway will certainly find musical highlights if you happen to visit during a Riverfront Concert Series performance. So head downtown and hear some amazing music by very talented artists. We’ll leave the light on for your return!
