The holiday season is almost here… in just a few short days, the jack-o-lanterns and witches will be replaced with snowmen and Santa Clauses. Many people travel for the holidays, whether it’s to visit family, mix up the same old traditions, or indulge in an amazing experience.
This year, mix it up and visit Great Oak Manor, an historic inn nestled on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay. Our 12-room estate, located in Kent County, Maryland, has plenty of room for you and your partner, plus space for your extended family (if you’re inclined to bring them!).
Our staff came up with a few reasons to entice you to visit Great Oak Manor this holiday season:
Holly will make your favorite recipes! Don’t worry about missing your mom’s famous cheesy, garlic potatoes or your grandpa’s chocolate chip cookies. Send Holly the recipe no later than December 15 and she will serve it at our holiday dinner!
Mix up your traditions. How many times are you going to make your kids take the same photo in front of the tree? Instead, capture some new holiday photos (and great memories) in front of the Chesapeake Bay or the stairs our in our hall.
No cleaning! No cooking! Hooray! Hooray! Think about how fantastic it will be to wake up on Christmas morning knowing the only thing you have to do is relax! No dishes to prepare, no tables to set, and no plates to wash! It will leave you with plenty of time to enjoy all of the manor’s magic!
Snuggle up in front of a roaring fire. Enjoy the warmth as you read a book or take a snooze. You have nothing to do today, remember?
The sunsets are just as majestic in the winter as they are in the summer. A picture is worth 1000 words, so here is one of a pretty epic sunset!
You will have more time for what’s important this year. Spending time with our family is exactly what the holidays are meant to be about. All year long we get caught up in work and relationships and running the kids to school and practices. Then, on the day we’re supposed to talk and laugh with them, we’re too busy worrying about the roast in the oven or getting Granny another glass of wine. Visiting Great Oak Manor will allow you to get away, forget about work, and enjoy time with those you love most.
Or, escape your family! Every once in a while, it’s good to take a break from the norm and spend time with only those people that we are the closest to. Bigger doesn’t always mean better. A peaceful Christmas on the bay with your immediate family may be exactly what you need.
No matter who you choose to spend the holidays with, you will surely make unforgettable memories on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. As we get older the years start to fade together and you won’t remember if the difference between Christmas this year and the one five years ago. But, spending a few days on the Chesapeake Bay will leave you with distinct memories that are sure to last a life time!
